Isla and the Happily Ever After

I don’t know why it took me so long to read this book. I read the first two books last year and I waited for this to come out. I bought it and then it just sat on my shelf. But, it’s fantastic! It’s such a cute, and romantic love story. Stephanie Perkin’s books always give you that giddy, butterflies-in-your-tummy feeling while reading. I basically had a smile on my face the entire time. Well, maybe not the entire time, because like in the synopsis, it’s heart-wrenching, and not in the best of ways at times. There are some sad moments, but in like every love story you have your ups and downs and it’s just the way that the characters can get over those times are what counts.

After three years of Isla swooning over artist Josh, he finally sets his sights on her. Isla couldn’t be happier that her long-time crush is interested in her. They end up spending more time together and eventually they become a couple. Isla has a best friend named Kurt. I really really liked his character. I liked that Stephanie made him a male and her best friend. You don’t often see male/female best friendships while one has a boyfriend/girlfriend. It’s like when you’re dating you can’t have friends of the opposite sex which is ridiculous and so I really liked that it was this way. Everything is fine between the three of them and life goes on.

I’m sad that there is no more to this beautiful series. Even though they don’t follow each other, they are companion novels and other characters make appearances in each novel. It was nice to see all the characters come together for something special at the end of this book. It really ties everything together. I’m excited to read her new novel when it comes out. GoodReads says it will be a teen slasher, which is totally different from these books but I have high expectations for it and think it will be just as good as these books. Again, with her books, I recommend them to anyone and everyone. You won’t be sorry.
