Beautiful Broken Rules

I absolutely loved this book. I read it in two sittings, I just couldn’t put it down. The only reason I didn’t read it in one sitting is because I have a toddler and that should explain enough. This is the first book I have read by Kimberly Lauren and I have to say, I was impressed. I liked the writing. I didn’t see anything wrong with it. I am not usually one to get right down to good or bad writing but with this book I just found her writing to flow so nicely. I was captivated the entire time. Not once was I bored and I didn’t really find this to be a predictable story either. I didn’t really expect the story to go the way it did and the romance wasn’t cheesy either, which is a nice thing since a lot of New Adult romances can be so damn cheesy and cliched. Yeah, he is a bad boy who drives a motorcycle, and she is the college slut but I didn’t feel like this was another typical story. They had real issues they were dealing with and had to overcome some obstacles in order to be together.

The thing I love most about this book is the characters. There is quite a few of them. Emerson and Jaxon being your two main ones. But Quinn, Cole and Jace were all in it equally and it made it that more interesting. They all played big and important parts to compliment the two main characters. It wasn’t just a love story between Emerson and Jaxon either, the others had their own stories as well.

Jaxon is a sexy, confident bad-boy, with a Texan accent that just melts Emerson every time he speaks. Emerson may be the college slut but she is well known and loved. I found that bizarre but it worked so all the power to her. She knows who she is as a person and what she wants out of life. She will not be tied down to any man. They will just cheat or die. This is what she has learned from her late parents and is sticking to it. But, in any love story there is always that one guy that changes it all and Jaxon is that man. It’s not instant, which is good. I feel that if it was insta-love, that would have made it cheesy but it wasn’t and that’s what I love the most about the romance in this book.

As like any New Adult romance, these are people over the age of 18 and there is quite a bit of sex in it. Pretty descriptive sex at that. I recommend this book definitely but just note there is sexual content. I look forward to reading the second book in the series which follows Jace’s story.
