Beautiful Disaster

Before I read this book I read the back of it and was intrigued. I then looked on GoodReads just to see what stars people were giving it. Many were 5’s, a lot of 4’s and then quite a few less than that. I personally loved this book! I read it twice in three days. I couldn’t put it down and I felt I had to read it again right away and I have never done that before.

This is a New Adult novel. I haven’t read many before but I really liked the college setting with them being in the dorms. I liked all the characters, even the side ones like Abby’s roommate Kara. You can tell that she is annoyed with Abby and always has a slight attitude with her. I like Abby but I find Abby’s character very annoying. I found myself hating her and then liking her and then hating her again all throughout the book. She just couldn’t make up her mind and it was driving me nuts. Reading the book I get why she is like that but it was just so damn annoying. I love a story with a bad boy in it and Travis Maddox fits the bill. He’s handsome, sexy, with a ton of tattoos. He’s smart, cocky and irresistible.

I loved the writing style. Even though I find Abby annoying I am glad it was first person in her point of view. The pace of the book was perfect, it spanned the time of the whole school year and the dialog was great. Jamie McGuire really knows how to write a good book. I found it funny, witty, dramatic, sad, happy, shocking, unexpected, intense… those are just some words to describe how I felt while reading this book. So good that once I finished it and took a second to gather my thoughts I flipped it over and started it again.

This book has mature content and really shouldn’t be read by anyone younger than 17 but with that being said if you are mature enough to read something like this than I highly recommend it. There is a sequel to this called Walking Disaster. It is the same story told in Travis’s perspective and there is a Novella to read after that called A Beautiful Wedding. I am stoked to read these books when I can get my hands on them which is hopefully soon.

The new Abby Abernathy is a good girl. She doesn’t drink or swear, and she has the appropriate number of cardigans in her wardrobe. Abby believes she has enough distance from the darkness of her past, but when she arrives at college with her best friend, her path to a new beginning is quickly challenged by Eastern University's Walking One-Night Stand.

Travis Maddox, lean, cut, and covered in tattoos, is exactly what Abby needs—and wants—to avoid. He spends his nights winning money in a floating fight ring, and his days as the ultimate college campus charmer. Intrigued by Abby’s resistance to his appeal, Travis tricks her into his daily life with a simple bet. If he loses, he must remain abstinent for a month. If Abby loses, she must live in Travis’s apartment for the same amount of time. Either way, Travis has no idea that he has met his match.
