Blood to Dust

I’ve read a few captive books where the person being kept falls in love with the person that keeps them prisoner. We all know how they all end, and this one does too, but it’s all in how the story is executed. This book is jam-packed with action. It’s suspenseful, sexy, and exciting. It’s very well written, with no spelling or grammar mistakes and it flows so nice. I really like L.J. Shen’s writing and characters. The characters have great chemistry. They have awesome backstories that are interesting, strong, and together they make an unstoppable couple.

I love a female character that is badass and can hold her own. Prescott is definitely a badass heroine. She’s tough, she doesn’t take shit from no one and she’ll fuck you up if she has too. She has been through hell and back, but that doesn’t stop her from doing what she has to do to survive. Yes, she does get kidnapped, but that can happen to anyone. It’s how she handles herself and what she does to survive. She is smart, she plans her work and works her plan.

Beat is big, tall and lean. He’s a killer and a no-bullshitter. He is told to keep a close eye on Prescott for a month. Hide her in the basement, not let her see his face or know his name. He was told that she’s smart and a manipulator. Don’t let her get close. At first, he took that info and ran with it. He had a mask and wouldn’t speak. It was when she started to tell him her story. She broke his walls piece by piece.

I’ll admit that at first I was confused. I didn’t realize that it’s set up with Prescott and Beat’s perspectives. There are names that are in big letters and it made me think that it was starting in their perspective, but it’s just introducing a new character. After the second chapter I figured out what was going on and all was good. Once the story got going, I was hooked into the action and couldn’t stop reading.

This is definitely a New Adult novel. There is a lot of violence, language and sexual content throughout. It shouldn’t be read by anyone under the age of Eighteen.

His name is Beat, and I should hate him.

Bound, blindfolded and bruised, I'm tied in his basement, waiting for the men who stripped me from clothes and humanity to collect his debt to them. Me.

His name is Nate and I should hate him, but I don't.

I'm not supposed to know his real name, even worse, I'm not supposed to care. He is nothing to me but means to an end. The plan is simple: break free, collect the pieces of my broken soul, kill the bastards and run away.

His name is Nathaniel Thomas Vela, and I've never seen his face, though I hear that it's beautiful.

Behind the rugged and handsome exterior, there's a quiet murderer, a killer who thinks guns are for pussies and ends people with his bare hands.

His name doesn't matter, neither does his face, but what does matter is my heart. And right now, sadly, it's his.

Blood to Dust is a standalone, full-length novel. It contains graphic violence and adult situations some may find offensive.
