If I could give this book ten stars, I would! Damn, what an intense book! Let me take a second to gather my thoughts, even though I read the book twice in a row, I’m still a little flustered. First of all, I couldn’t put it down. On my Kobo, it says it takes about 12 hours to read it. Well, I read it within that 12 hours. I stayed up all night and finished it in one sitting. I have only ever done that with a couple of Colleen Hoover books, so that just means I loved this book a lot!! Hot! Intense! Exciting! Terrifying! Sexy! Raw! So many emotions and feelings, I couldn’t contain myself.

I’ve read two other books from Penelope Douglas and I really like her writing. It’s clear, descriptive writing with great dialog. Her characters are perfect. The development is on point and you get a feel for who each character is. Especially in this book, Corrupt. The Four Horsemen. Michael, Kai, Damon, and Will are four friends who are known as the “Four Horsemen,” they are all sons of prestigious men and are all basketball players. Each member are very similar but very different at the same time. They all like a game, inside basketball and out. They like a challenge and are not afraid to take what they want. But, each one is also very different.

Michael is “the leader”. He is full of passion and fire. He stands his ground and doesn’t give into anyone. Damon is the dangerous one. He’s not safe and he’s the baddest of them all. You don’t want to get in his way. Kai is “second in command. He is less dangerous than Damon and can wheel any of the guys in if they are crossing a line. Will, is the “sweetest” of them all. I don’t say sweet as in roses and kisses. He is just the less crazy of them. Doesn’t get angry much, but when he does. Watch out. Damon is definitely my favourite. He set my belly on fire the entire time reading. Every time he was mentioned, especially lighting a cigarette and letting the smoke drift out of his mouth… damn…

Now, enter Rika. Erika, but everyone calls her Rika. She is three years younger than the Horsemen. She is Michael’s brother’s girlfriend and she’s always had a thing for Michael. Ever since she was younger, she’s always had eyes for him. But never has he ever shown any sort of attention to her growing up. So, when the Horsemen come back to do their hazing for the new basketball players, Rika is curious and follows. Rika just wants to have a little fun. She is always seen as the perfect daughter, student and girlfriend. She wants excitement, adventure and a little trouble. She joins in on the Four Horsemen’s Devil’s Night activities and things are going great. She is getting attention from Michael and having fun. Then some things happen that lands three of the four Horsemen in jail. Now, it’s three years later and they want revenge. They plan their attack and attack their plan. Rika is their target and they will stop at nothing. I really liked Rika’s character. She’s kind of naive but she also stands up and fights back.

One thing about this book is that it’s definitely an erotica novel. It’s dark and it’s twisted. Maybe I shouldn’t have liked it as much as I did, but I have never read a book like this before. Yeah, there’s 50 Shades of Grey that is erotic and dark. But this is something different. The Horsemen are rough and vulgar and are not very nice to Rika, but it’s hot and exciting and that’s why I love Fiction so much. I wouldn’t necessarily want this in real life but I love reading about it. I wish this book was 400 more pages than what it was, but I know that there will be more books on the other Horsemen. Kai’s book is next. I’m more excited to read Damon’s book, but Kai is my second favourite, so it will do.

It’s hard to say who to recommend this book too. If you like love stories that are sweet and innocent, then this isn’t the book for you. This is the complete opposite of that. But if you like books that set you on edge and get you going. Then I would say give this a try. You’ll probably enjoy it a lot more than you thought you would. It’s definitely not for the faint of heart and not recommended for anyone under the age of 18. Very strong language and sexual content and possibly some trigger points as well….Don’t say you weren’t warned!

I was told that dreams were our heart’s desires. My nightmares, however, became my obsession.

His name is Michael Crist.

My boyfriend’s older brother is like that scary movie that you peek through your hand to watch. He is handsome, strong, and completely terrifying. The star of his college’s basketball team and now gone pro, he’s more concerned with the dirt on his shoe than me.

But I noticed him.

I saw him. I heard him. The things that he did, and the deeds that he hid…For years, I bit my nails, unable to look away.

Now, I’ve graduated high school and moved on to college, but I haven’t stopped watching Michael. He’s bad, and the dirt I’ve seen isn’t content to stay in my head anymore.

Because he’s finally noticed me.

Her name is Erika Fane, but everyone calls her Rika.

My brother’s girlfriend grew up hanging around my house and is always at our dinner table. She looks down when I enter a room and stills when I am close. I can always feel the fear rolling off of her, and while I haven’t had her body, I know that I have her mind. That’s all I really want anyway.

Until my brother leaves for the military, and I find Rika alone at college.

In my city.

The opportunity is too good to be true as well as the timing. Because you see, three years ago she put a few of my high school friends in prison, and now they’re out.

We’ve waited. We’ve been patient. And now every last one of her nightmares will come true.

***Corrupt can be read as a stand-alone. No cliffhanger.***
