This is my favourite Fall Away book in the series so far. This book is so damn good! At first I didn’t think I was going to care much about Jax’s story. In Until You is when you first really learn about Jared having a brother and the stuff he had to go through. In Rival he was introduced more and was in that book here and there. I was very wrong because his story is the most interesting and the most heartbreaking.
Jaxon has been through hell and back. He was raised in foster homes until his father came to claim him. Growing up around his father and his friends always partying and not being taken care of, Jaxon didn’t have a very good home life. When his half-brother Jared came to stay with them one summer, Jared learned exactly what it was like there and did what he could to get him out of there. Now, Jared’s mom stepped up and got him out of the system and into her home where she showered him with love and care.
Jaxon is very smart. Into computers and cars, he’s made a name for himself around town. He’s strong, confident and knows what he wants out of life. K.C Carter is the timid, proper girl who did everything her mother told her to do and never had any fun. Trouble struck her at college and she was sent back to her hometown to do community service. All she wants to do is break free of her shell and have a little fun while she’s doing it. Staying in her friend Tate’s house for the summer, right next door to Jaxon’s means she gets to see the boy that she’s had a crush on for years.
The more time that they spend together, the closer they get. But when these two people are together it’s not always sunshine and rainbows. They each have their own demons they have to battle and they butt heads a lot. Push and pull, give and take is what they do back and forth. There doesn’t seem to be a happy medium with K.C and Jaxon but as they learn more about each other, the more their relationship begins to build.
Hearts are broken and lessons are learned, but this story is all about trust, loyalty, family and friendships and it’s all very important. You get to see Tate, Jared, Madoc and Fallon in this story again and they all play important roles. No one is left out and you get to learn even more things about them in this book as well. I’m so happy with the way this story ended and I cannot wait to finish the series with Aflame. I believe it’s back to Jared and Tate, but I’m sure we will see our favourite characters in there as well.
