I wanted to like this book more than I did, I was hoping for so much more. The synopsis didn’t match up with that was happening in the book. It ended at a cliffhanger before anything in the description could really happen. Given that this is a debut novel by the author, the writing isn’t too in-depth. The sentences are short and there’s not a lot of describing going on. There is a lot of dialog between characters, but not in a way where it’s back and forth. It’s long for each character and it kind of drawls on. I’m not trying to hate on it so much – because I love the plot of the book – I just think there could have been more.

Our main characters are Abby, Jake and the Stalker. Divided into their three perspectives, it’s nice to see what each person is thinking and feeling. Abby is a young woman who lives in Toronto. She works at a men’s shelter downtown and has for seven long years. She’s used to the men yelling at her, spitting on her, and even hitting on her. She knows how to handle herself well. Abby has a few close friends and her cousin Dallas that she always hangs out with. They¬†like to go out to clubs where they can dance and party, drink and get high.

Jake is Abby’s boss at the shelter. He’s got a bitch of an ex-wife and a daughter who is three. He’s always liked Abby and he finally gets to make a move. He offers to drive her home after an incident at the shelter. They end up going to a bar and then Abby invites him over. She’s also always had a crush on him and now is the perfect time to act on it. Jake is a nice guy with responsibilities. Abby seems like the total opposite of him, where she likes to party and have a good time. He is a supervisor, has his own house and a child. But, he really likes her and they end up going for a secret relationship.

Our Stalker is a serial stalker. He has watched many women in his time, but has set his sights on Abby. He’s obsessed with Abby, he thinks that he’s in love with her and that she will be his. He has cameras in her apartment and likes watching her have sex with other men. He gets off on it. We don’t know much about Stalker, he only has very short chapters that tell about what he plans to do next. He seems like he’s a bit of a psycho, he does some pretty drastic things to get closer to Abby.

I’m really hoping that the second book will be better. While I’m not saying that it needs a lot of improvement, I just feel like the pace is rushed and the writing is very simple. I still plan on reading the next one, because this one left off on such a cliffhanger. I really need to know what Stalker is going to do next in order to get closer to Abby. The next book is called Disillusion and will be releasing on February 14th 2017. Both books are not suitable for readers under the age of eighteen. Violence, language and sexual content throughout.

The first time I saw Abby Osborne, I knew I had to have her. Plans for our future took on a life of their own.

I want to own her.

I want to breathe her.

I want to see her smile.

I want to see her cry.

But, more than anything, I want to watch as panic seizes her immobile. I need to see the look on her face when she realizes, the man she couldn't spare a second glance at, is the one who will love her so fiercely that she'll never be the same.

Now, until the time comes for our happily ever after, I'll be forced to endure the hell of witnessing her stumble through the life she doesn't know she's about to lose.
