Wow, it’s a toss up between this and Slammed. I love Slammed because it’s the start of Layken and Will’s relationship but this book is all about the ups and downs and what it takes to make a relationship work. A lot of things happen and a lot of emotions are brought out. One thing about this book is that is it funny! I haven’t read a book this funny in a long time.
I don’t really have to talk about characters because they are the same except we get two more characters added. Kiersten, who is Kel and Caulder’s new friend and the new neighbour and Sherry is who is Kiersten’s mother. Kiersten is so funny. She is an 11-year-old straight-shooter. She tells you whats on her mind and she doesn’t hold anything back. I think she is my favourite character. She brings such joy when things get a little rough. Sherry is a great character too because we learn a little about her back story, she is very down to earth and very mother-like for everyone in the story.
There isn’t as much poetry in this book as there is in Slammed, but what poetry there is, it’s beautiful. So raw and emotional. Colleen Hoover definitely knows how to write good poetry as well as amazing books. I think Slammed and Point of Retreat are two of my favourite books I have read so far. Again, because this is the second book, I highly recommend it. I cannot wait to read This Girl which is Slammed but in Will’s perspective. You always have to read the other’s perspective, especially a character like Will.
