This is such an amazing book, I’d have to say it’s now my favourite. It is so well written with such great characters and meaning. I was in awe the entire time. I wrote in my notes that at the end of chapter two I was in love with Will and Layken’s chemistry. I remember being in high school myself and falling head over heels for a guy within the second day meeting him, so I could relate to Layken in that sense.
The struggle that they had to go through is totally realistic. It could happen to anyone. The side struggles that they deal with like family deaths, school, etc just make the entire story something so real, I can’t get enough of it. I read other Colleen Hoover books before this one but for this to be her first book is amazing!
I love all these characters. Usually in love stories I find the female to be annoying but I actually like Layken. She is level-headed, she loves her family like no tomorrow and she will stand up for what is right. Will is amazing. He’s mature for his age, he is loving/caring, funny and flirty. My favourite character is Eddie. She is so real and down to earth. Her back story and personality make her such a great addition to this story. Even the two boys Kel and Caulder are such great characters. They bring happiness and life to the story when it becomes a little sad.
I don’t know much about poetry. It’s not really my thing but I was in love with the slams in this book. After I read the first one, I skimmed the pages to see how much more of it was in there. It’s so raw and meaningful and at one point two of them made me cry. I am not a crier during books but this book had me crying at three or four different times. Like actual sobbing, tears coming down my face where I was concerned of getting my book wet. I had to put the book down at one point just to take a breather. So when a book can make me cry that much then it’s a good book in my eyes.
This book had a perfect ending, I was surprised to find out there was a second one. I am nervous that something is going to happen that will mess it all up so I am kind of anxious to start Point of Retreat. But I totally recommend Slammed to anyone and everyone. This is a must-read book! If I could give it more than five stars I would.
