When I was first reading this, I was giving it about a three-point-five stars and then it moved to a four star and by the time I finished, it was a solid 5 stars. I actually love this book. Despite it being dark and gritty – which it is – it’s really, really good. The characters are awesome, they are rough around the edges, bad ass and the epitome of alpha. There is so much dialog they could make a movie out of it, and the plot is interesting and edgy. This is definitely not your typical love story, that’s for sure. It’s dark and erotic. It’s twisted and suspenseful. And even a little taboo. At times you probably won’t even like what your reading based on characters decisions, etc. But, if you keep reading, you’ll find that there’s an underlying love story, waiting to come out.
I’ve only read two hardcore Motorcycle Club books – this one included – where I didn’t even know what MC stood for while reading the synopsis. Now I know what I’m reading, and I freaking love them. There is so much that goes on, but if you get the right author, like Madeline Sheehan, to tell the story correctly, then everything flows together. It all makes sense in the end and your left feeling like you were just on the crazy adventure with these crazy characters.
Eva Fox is a biker brat. That means she grew up living in the Motorcycle Clubhouse. Her father, Preacher, is the President of that club. She had to grow up fast and she had to grow up hard. With her father in and our of prison, she was taken care of by many of the men around the club. She was the spoiled princess and everyone loved her. But, she grew up in a rough life, hardened by witnessing and experiencing, she became somewhat of a hard bitch.
When she was five years old, her uncle took her to see her father at the prison. There, she met twenty-three year old Deuce. He was the most beautiful man she had ever seen and he was nice to her. She instantly fell in love with him. She was twelve when she saw him again, but it was for a short amount of time and not enough to impact her life. It was only when she was sixteen years old where she had her next encounter with him and it changed her life forever.
Deuce West is also a biker brat, but with a father who couldn’t care less about him. After seeing him in the jail the day he met Eva, he put the hit out on him before his father was able to do it to him. Deuce became the president of the rival gang in town. He is a rough, hard man and very dominating. He will kill without blinking an eye, but he’s also very loyal to his crew. The day he met Eva at the jail, she did something to his heart. Not in a gross kind of way, but he was reminded of the innocence that she had, even while living in a Motorcycle Clubhouse. When he met her again at sixteen, he did something that he might have regretted later, but did not at the time.
Frankie is a man who was brought into Eva’s family when they were just young kids. He’s also always been a bad kid and an even worse adult. Not afraid to kill, blows off the handle easily, and no conscience, He became Preacher’s hitman and VP of the MC. He’s always been protective and obsessive of Eva. It started out just a brotherly act until he became in love with her and couldn’t stop. Frankie plays a big part in this book even though he may not be considered a “main character”.
When I put this book down for the final time, I had to give my head a little shake. There is a lot that goes on in MC books, I’ve come to realize. This book is twisted and emotional but it’s a really good read. I couldn’t stop reading it, I was up till six in the morning. It’s very well written, with amazing characters and even great side characters. Enough that the other books in this series are all based on other characters from this one. Characters that were not too important, but had enough of an impact to get their stories told as well. I am so pumped to read those as well and continue on with the Motorcycle gang.
This book is definitely not suitable for young readers. It may not even be suitable for some adults. It’s not your typical love story, it’s dark and disturbing at times. If you are mature enough to read about heavily alpha males who take control of their women, kill for fun and don’t take shit from no one then this book you will enjoy. There is cheating, taboo themes and heavily used language. Violence and some disturbing sexual matters throughout. You’ve been warned.
